Man arrested for killing French woman in Morocco and injuring Belgian victim in market

According to the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), the victim was identified as “79-year-old Frenchman living in a camp near the town of Disney, south of Agadir.”

Police arrested a 31-year-old man in Agadir on Saturday evening and are investigating to determine the motive for his actions, DGSN said, without specifying when the woman was killed.

Police have previously indicated that a judicial inquiry has been opened to arrest “a suspect charged in a knife-assault and battery case that led to the death of a foreign national.”

According to preliminary data from the investigation, the suspect caused the death “with the help of a sharp object while in the Disney municipal market”, DGSN states, do not rule out the “hypothesis of an attack on theft”. .

According to the same source, the suspect is suspected of “premeditated murder and attempted murder”.

“He was arrested after attempting to physically assault customers at a restaurant on Agadir Beach, in which a Belgian victim was taken to hospital for treatment.”

The suspect had previously been admitted to a psychiatric hospital “from September 25 to October 25, 2021”.
