The son of one of the drug traffickers was arrested in Mexico!

The son of drug lord Joaquín Guzmán, known as “El Chapo,” has been arrested during a military operation in northwestern Mexico.

“El Chapo” has been in prison since 2019 after being sentenced to life in prison in the United States. Ovidio Guzman and his brothers took over a portion of the Sinaloa drug trade. He is considered one of the main drug traffickers in Mexico.

He was first arrested in 2019 but later released on orders from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to prevent violent fighting between criminals and security forces.

After Thursday’s crackdown, violent clashes erupted between suspected gang members and law enforcement in Culiacan. Suspects stopped buses and trucks across the road and set fire to the vehicles. Schools and public buildings are closed. Governor Ruben Rocha Moya has called on citizens to stay at home.

“El Chapo” is one of the most powerful drug lords in the world. The former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel made billions by smuggling tons of cocaine and heroin into the United States. He was responsible for nearly 3,000 murders. He has twice escaped from high-security prisons in Mexico. After his last arrest, he was extradited to the United States, where he was sentenced to life in prison.
