We only knew a week ago that Austin Theory would be next in line to challenge Rey Mysterio for the United States Championship, but we didn’t know when that would happen. WWE has gone ahead and made that clear Friday Night SmackDown this week.
In fact, it was announced that Mysterio vs. Theory will take place in the coming period reimbursement Featured live event on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Theory got that shot last week when he defeated LA Knight. He didn’t do it alone, of course, as The Miz helped provide just enough of a distraction to allow Theory to score a pinfall victory.
But winning is winning!
This will also be a rematch, as Theory is the man Mysterio defeated to win the title.
