IHe said there was no chance of implementing the Minsk peace agreements in the conflict between Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists, President Vladimir Putin ruled on Monday, accusing Kiev of sabotaging them.
At a meeting of the Russian Security Council, he said, “We understand that they have absolutely no chance.”
The comments came after Dmitry Kozak, head of peace talks in Ukraine, said the negotiation process had “stalled since 2019” and that Ukrainian authorities would “never” implement the agreements.
Russian-backed separatists are calling for Putin to recognize his independence
Leaders of the two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine on Monday called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize their independence and establish “security cooperation.”
These calls were coordinated and broadcast on Russian television, initiated by the leaders of the “People’s Republic of Donetsk” and Lukansk, Denis Bushlin and Leonid Bachechnik.
Russia says it is considering a request for recognition.
