FORT MYERS, Fla. – Instead, a 6-year-old boy who left on a flight for the Christmas holiday to visit his grandmother in Southwest Florida was put on the wrong plane and ended up 160 miles away in Orlando, Florida.
When grandmother Maria Ramos arrived Thursday at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers to greet her grandson, who was traveling for the first time from Philadelphia, she was told he was not on the Spirit Airlines flight.
“I ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and asked her: 'Where is my grandson? Was he delivered to you in Philadelphia?'” She said: “No, I didn't have any children with me, Ramos.” Tell wink news.
Then she received a phone call from her grandson from the Orlando airport telling her he had landed.
In a statement, Spirit Airlines SAVE announced,
He said the boy was in the care and supervision of an airline employee the entire time, even though he was improperly boarded on a flight to Orlando. The statement said that as soon as the error was discovered, the airlines informed the family about it.
“We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all our guests very seriously and are conducting an internal investigation,” the statement read. “We apologize to the family for this experience.”
