Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cady Johnson was released from a local hospital Friday afternoon after apparently sustaining head and neck injuries during the season opener Thursday night.

Johnson, late in the first half of the Seahawks’ game against the Minnesota Vikings Thursday night, was seen walking into the medical tent behind the team bench at Seattle’s Lumen Field. Nothing obvious happened on the field, and he didn’t need help getting up or out.

Shortly afterwards, Johnson was carried off the field with his head and neck pinned.

Johnson was rushed to an ambulance and taken to a local hospital, which the Seahawks quickly said was taken “as a precaution” for head and neck injuries.

Johnson last touched the ball during a kickoff in the second quarter, and he fell hard on the play, but got up and continued the play. He was targeted twice in a pre-season game on Thursday, but was unsuccessful. He carried one for two yards.

The Seahawks said on Friday that Johnson was released from the hospital and entered the NFL’s protocol for concussions.

“We got a really good report, first,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said after the game. via ESPN. “I hope this is crucial, but that’s what we heard… [We] He went to extreme precautions, and the results were really positive.”

Johnson is entering his second season with the Seahawks. He had two receptions for 21 yards in three games last year. The 25-year-old dropped out of South Dakota State in 2021, and signed a one-year, $870,000 deal with Seattle next season.
