Samsung launched the 2022 update for its A series today, and while the focus was mainly on the Galaxy A53 and to some extent the Galaxy A33, its older brother – the Galaxy A73 only silently appeared on the company’s website. However, it’s not a model to ignore, so let’s see what happens for it!
The A series are very good phones at a high price – they ring some bells and whistles, but they still offer good cameras and great screens with a high refresh rate and satisfactory battery life. It is divided into three layers – A3- low-mid range, A5- mid-range, and A7- upper mid-range. However, at this point, official information indicates that the Galaxy A53 will only be sold in the US, with the A33 and A73 heading to various international markets.
Samsung Galaxy A73 screen and design
As for the body of the phone – it appears that it is made of plastic, the frame mimics the glossy gloss of the metal body, while the back is finished in a soft matte color. The Galaxy A73 is offered in three colors – mint green, white, and dark gray.
Samsung Galaxy A73 specifications
The processor listed for the Galaxy A73 appears to be different – it is listed as an octa-core processor with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz. It might be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G or something.
The Galaxy A73 comes in 128GB or 256GB storage tiers, each paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM respectively. It also has a microSD card slot that can expand your storage space by up to an additional 1 TB.
The lights are kept by a 5,000mAh battery, which is still respectably huge. Although it should power a 6.7-inch, 120Hz screen, the jury is still out on battery life.
Samsung Galaxy A73 Software Updates
With the release of the new A series, Samsung has reaffirmed its dedication to 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security patches. This is huge for Android midranger phones – it will cease to be an Android update joke and will in fact be considered…a worthwhile investment.
The Galaxy A73 will come with Android 12 out of the box, which means it will get Android 16 four years from now and will remain unexpired for another year after that.
Of course, the entire operating system is decked out in Samsung’s OneUI interface – a very integrated experience, providing a very powerful alternative for those users who don’t really enjoy what Google did with Android 12 and the Material You philosophy.
Samsung Galaxy A73 camera
In the camera department, we have a setup similar to the A53, but with a notch in the main snapper.
So, we’re looking at a 108MP main camera with an F1.8 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an F2.2 aperture, and then a 5MP macro camera and a 5MP depth camera for selfie effects. Up front, there’s a 32MP selfie snapper – the same high resolution as last year’s A52 and A72 series.
The camera is basically one of the A-series’ big selling points – these are fun and affordable phones for young people who love spending hours in that viewfinder. So expect all the fun features from the Galaxy S – Portrait mode, Single shot, Hyperlapse, Food mode, etc. Will the Galaxy A73 have a video image? Probably not, but we open ourselves up to a pleasant surprise here.
