PlayStation acquires Savage Game Studios, focusing on mobile games

PlayStation today announced its plan to acquire Savage Game Studios to promote mobile game development.

Hermen Holst, President of PlayStation Studios, made the announcement on PS . Blog. If you don’t know the team, it’s a company of two European studios that make mobile games. Among its employees are veterans from major mobile developers such as Rovio, Zynga, Wargaming, and more. Holst describes Savage as “a very talented team of creators with many years of experience making some of the most popular mobile games enjoyed by gamers around the world”.

The acquisition will place the team within the newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile division “which will operate independently of our console development and focus on innovative on-the-go experiences based on the new and existing PlayStation IP.” Savage is already working on an “unannounced AAA mobile live action game”.

Hulst confirms that PlayStation Studios will continue to make “amazing, narrative-driven single-player experiences,” highlighting a few of the big first-party titles released this year, such as Forbidden horizon west And the Gran Turismo 7. As with the PC ports, the company’s mobile production will be “reciprocated,” increasing PlayStation’s reach well beyond PS5 or PS4 consoles.
