Doja Cat says she’s done with pop music, the next album will be all rap

Doja Cat She says she’s ready to prove she’s a good rapper, and to do so…she’s putting her pop style on hold, maybe forever.

The artist — who’s labeled a lot of things, but doesn’t quite fit into any particular box — took to Twitter on Saturday to reveal that she’s heard people loud and clear… namely, that her bars aren’t quite up to snuff and that her rap prowess has been, until now. , Very weak.

No more pop

It’s a consistent criticism Doja has faced since she burst onto the scene…especially since most of her songs have been straight-up pop-gum-pop—that’s where she sings.

Now, DC says they’ll show everyone what’s on their next album… writing, “I also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mean and cliché. I know they are. I haven’t tried to prove anything just having fun making music but I’m fed up.” From hearing you say I can’t.” In other words, Doja will parade her stuff at the right time.

I also agree with everyone who has said that the majority of my rap verses are mean and clichéd. I know they are. I wasn’t trying to prove anything that I just enjoy making music, but I’m sick of hearing it said that I can’t.

There’s more she’s talked about in the responses to other Twitter users who have reacted to this news – including the fact that she does, in fact, consider herself a rapper… up there with the likes Nicki MinajAnd Megan Thee StallionAnd latoAnd Cardi B And other major women, it seems.

Doja also says that pop music doesn’t excite her anymore…and she wants to pivot toward a different, more energetic sound. Finally, she says, she talked about this new project, “Hellmouth.”

It’s interesting that she wants to delve into rap considering how successful she is with her current path. Doja has listed a number of singles that have charted well, including “Say So,” “Kiss Me More,” “You’re Right,” “Woman,” and “Best Friend,” among others.

The latter leans more to rap, but her pop-music honesty has proven her to be a money-maker…and an award contender, too. She’s already won a Grammy, and has picked up plenty of other accolades for her pop-centric records. The fact that she wants to get away from it… is risky.

Regardless, she seems confident that she can pull it off… and with her proven track record, there’s no reason to think she can’t. Doja Cat is one of the biggest names in music right now, so we’re sure she can put together a great album with great production and features.

There have been reports of her plans to do this new album solo, without any collaborations, but there is no evidence to support this. What sparked it, however, were some of the nicknames… like “Balut,” “Wet Vagina,” and “Agora Hills.” I have to say… those sound like straight crackers.

Less crooning, more spit… I can’t wait!
