BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Reuters) – China’s Huawei Technologies Inc on Friday began pre-sales of its Mate 60 Pro+ smartphone, adding a new version to a series that captured global attention for its revelations of the Chinese tech firm’s success in fending off US sanctions.

With no pre-announcements, as it did when launching the Mate 60 Pro smartphone last week, the company announced on its official online store that it will start taking orders for the phone from 10:08 am (0208 GMT) with delivery by October. 9.

The specifications provided by the company for the phone indicated its ability to connect up to two satellites simultaneously and a larger internal storage space compared to the Mate 60 Pro. Its price has not been released.

Speed tests shared by buyers on Chinese social media indicated that the Mate 60 Pro is capable of download speeds that exceed those of leading 5G phones.

Detailed analysis firm TechInsights also found that the phone is powered by the new Kirin 9000s chipset which is manufactured in China by Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) (0981.HK).

The discovery is seen as a major achievement for Huawei, whose access to basic chipmaking tools to produce the most advanced phone models has been restricted since 2019 by the United States. This previously left the company only able to launch limited batches of 5G models using stock chips.
