Bruins place McAvoy, Zacha on IR; Mention Brown, Witherspoon

Boston – Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, December 14, the following roster transactions:

The team placed defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Pavel Zacha on injured reserve. Recalled forward Patrick Brown from Providence; Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon was recalled from Providence on an emergency basis.

McAvoy (25 years old) participated in 21 games with Boston this season, scoring three goals and making 14 assists for 17 points. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Blueliner skated in 401 NHL games with Boston, totaling 44 goals and 203 assists for 247 points. The Long Beach, New York, native was originally selected by Boston in the first round (14thy Overall) from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Zacha (26 years old) participated in 26 games with Boston this season, scoring eight goals and making 11 assists for 19 points. The 6-foot-4, 207-pound forward has skated in 494 NHL games with Boston and New Jersey, totaling 98 goals and 157 assists for 255 points. The Brno, Czech Republic native was originally selected by New Jersey in the first round (6y Overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Brown (31 years old) appeared in eight games with Boston this season and recorded one assist. The 6-foot-1, 218-pound forward also appeared in six games for Providence this season, totaling one goal and one assist for two points. Brown skated in 146 NHL games with Boston, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Vegas and Carolina, recording 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points. The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native was originally signed by Carolina as a free agent in 2014.

Wotherspoon, 26, has appeared in three games for Boston this season, recording one assist. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Blueliner also appeared in 19 games for Providence this season, totaling one goal and four assists for five points. Wotherspoon skated in 15 NHL games with Boston and the New York Islanders, recording two assists. The Surrey, British Columbia native was originally selected by the New York Islanders in the fourth round (112y Overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
