Apple launches the first beta versions of iOS 17.2, watchOS 10.2, and macOS 14.2 [U]

Update: The first public beta of iOS 17.2 will be released in a day.


Apple has released the first beta of iOS 17.2 to developers. The new version includes Apple features that haven’t been released yet, including the Journal app and updates to Tapback in Messages.

In addition to the first beta of iOS 17.2, Apple also released these updates:

  • The first beta of watchOS 10.2
  • The first beta of macOS 14.2 Sonoma
  • tvOS 17.2 first developer beta
  • HomePod 17.2 first beta

Apple’s Journal app was first revealed at WWDC 2023. The company said it will be released later this year instead of launching with iOS 17.0 and will include these features:

  • Uses on-device machine learning to generate personalized journaling suggestions – Suggestions API for other apps
  • Includes pictures, exercises, and interactions as prompts
  • Entries can be marked as important to feature
  • The prompts will inspire you to write
  • The journal can be locked and end-to-end encrypted for privacy
