On Tuesday, MGM dropped the official trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s movie Challengers, his new movie starring Zendaya as a tennis prodigy coach. A love triangle movie that also stars West Side StoryMike Feist W the crownJosh O’Conner’s movie hits theaters September 15th.
Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to the hero, Art (Faist), on a losing streak, Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he has to confront Patrick (O’Connor) – his former best friend and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.
As their pasts and gifts collide, and tensions rise, Tashi must ask herself, what does it cost to win.
The trailer reveals the trio’s story from a sometimes steamy relationship (the movie is rated R) in their younger years to the present, when Tashi’s game plan is threatened by their past.
Justin Koritzkes wrote the screenplay for the film, which was produced by Amy Pascal, Guadagnino, Zendaya and Rachel O’Connor. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross did the music.
Zendaya will be appearing on the big screen a lot in the fall, with Dune: Part Two It is set to hit theaters on November 3.
