Vanessa Bryant celebrates the outcome of a civil case over images of the helicopter crash that killed NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others in January 2020.
Federal jury awarded Vanessa Bryant $16 million Wednesday after an 11-day civil trial covered graphic details of horrific photos taken and shared. Chris Chester, a financial advisor who lost his wife and daughter in the same meltdown, was separately awarded $15 million by the same jury.
The verdict was reached on Wednesday, which coincides with kobe bryant day (8/24) in Los Angeles, representing the jersey numbers the NBA legend wore during his 20-year career with the Lakers.
“It’s all for you! I love you!” Vanessa Bryant captioned a picture Kobe Bryant and her daughter Gianna smiling. “Justice for Kobe and Gigi! 8 • 24 • 22”
She added the hashtags #Betonyourself and #MambaDay.

Vanessa Bryant took this case to trial after filing a lawsuit accusing the county mayor and fire department employees of using their personal phones to take and share unexplained photos of human remains from the scene despite there being no legitimate business reason to do so.
On Tuesday, Vanessa Bryant and her daughter Natalia Bryant, who attended the trial with her mother, celebrated Kobe Bryant’s 44th birthday.
