“The Bean” in Chicago’s Millennium Park is now open to the public after renovations

CHICAGO — “The Bean” is open again.

After nearly a year of work to renovate Grainger Square in Chicago’s Millennium Park, one of the biggest tourist attractions in both the city and the entire Midwest reopened to the public on Sunday.

On her official account Published Millennium Park: “We are pleased to share that Grainger Plaza, the area surrounding Cloud Gate (also known as “The Bean”), has been completed and is now open to the public. Visitors once again have full access to Chicago’s famous Cloud Gate designed by Anish Kapoor.

sculpture, Designed by Kapoor, officially known as Cloud Gate but commonly called “The Bean” due to its shape. This park has been a staple of Millennium Park since 2004, attracting thousands of tourists and visitors annually.

It was cordoned off last August so crews could rebuild the plaza platform, replace paving and make accessibility upgrades, including new stairs and accessible ramps. A spokesperson told WGN News the arena also has a new waterproofing system.
