Nintendo has shared the long-awaited video message from Charles Martinet – the former voice of Mario and the new Mario ambassador – and Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator.

The video message from the duo doesn’t just give us new information about who might be voicing the famous plumber, or even what the role of Mario will involve as an ambassador for Martinet (which he himself admitted he doesn’t really know either!) It just showcases the excitement and emotion from the voice actor for fans and his new role.

Miyamoto-san thanks Martinet for his work and involvement in the series, acknowledging the long journey the two have been on together since Martinet’s first major voice role in Super Mario 64.

Miyamoto adorablely reveals that Martinet used to call him “Daddy” whenever they met. While Martinette’s new role has not been detailed, the actor revealed that he will be traveling around the world to meet fans. So we assume he’ll be showing up at conventions for a while, at least.

As for who the new voice of Mario is – Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi – we won’t find out until Super Mario Bros. launches. Wonder in October.
