Royal friends mock Harry and Meghan over car chase story in New York City

It’s a car chase that turns into a public relations car crash.

Friends of the British royal family are said to be mocking Prince Harry and ‘unraveling’ Meghan Markle’s claim that they got into a fight. ‘Near-disastrous’ car chase Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes released a statement saying the couple were chased by a “very aggressive gang of paparazzi” after they left the Women of Vision Awards in Manhattan, which resulted in a “relentless pursuit” with “multiple close collisions” that lasted over 2 hours.

But in the days since, many public figures, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams, have questioned the backstory. The stars of “The View” even criticized the duo for their “misleading” statement, with Whoopi Goldberg saying it would halve their “credibility.”

The backlash appears to have been gloating for friends of the royal family, as one of Prince William’s Sussex friends quipped while speaking with The Daily Beast on Friday.

A Sussex spokesperson released a statement saying the pair were chased by a “highly aggressive gang of paparazzi” after they left the Women of Vision Awards in Manhattan, which led to a “relentless pursuit” with “multiple close collisions” that lasted more than two hours.

They added: “William and Catherine have endured such in the past. Everyone understands his anger at the paparazzi, but the hysterical statements don’t help matters, especially when, as the Queen said, memories may differ.”

Meanwhile, a friend of King Charles also spoke out to the publication, saying the monarch would “completely understand that Harry is upset about being hounded by the paparazzi.”

In the days since the Sussex’s statement, public figures have mocked the couple’s claims.

Whoopi Goldberg attacked the Sussexes spokesperson during a segment on Thursday edition From “the view”, saying the word “chasing” means that the alleged grave happened at a high speed.

“When you use that kind of verbosity, know that your credibility will be cut in half because New Yorkers will say, ‘No one moves that fast,'” she said.

“I think people know if there are car chases in New York, we’ll all get to the stage on time,” Goldberg added as the audience laughed.

Likewise, co-host Sarah Haines shaded the royal couple on their statement, explicitly declaring: “The statements they used were misleading.”

Alyssa Farrah Griffin agreed, calling the couple’s statement a “public relations failure.”

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan, Megyn Kelly and Caitlyn Jenner all mocked the Sussex’s statement regarding the car chase.

Markle and Harry were with the Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, at the Women of Vision event in Midtown.

The trio and a security guard were allegedly moved from the event to a private residence on the Upper East Side after the enticing soiree.

However, the group was reportedly forced to flee the car after aggressive paparazzi appeared.

They then stop at the NYPD’s 19th Precinct on the Upper East Side, before being picked up in a yellow cab to drive them to their destination. However, they were later driven back to the area out of fear that the residence where they were staying would be discovered by the paparazzi.

Speaking to The Post Wednesday, the taxi driver, Sonny Singh, suggested the Sussexes’ dramatic statement was overblown.

“I never felt like I was in danger. It wasn’t like a car chase in a movie,” Singh said. “They were calm and looked scared but it’s New York — it’s safe.”
