Project Giants picks 2022: New York drops twice, WR picks Wan’Dale Robinson 43rd

The New York Giants Recycled twice in Round 2 of 2022 NFL Draft, and ended up with pick number 43 after starting the night with pick number 36 overall. With this choice, the Giants chose Kentucky wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson.

Robinson, a 5-foot-8, 178-pound fast driver, is a surprising choice.

The Giants collected picks 38 and 146 (Round 5) from New York Jets On the first step back. After that, they switched the thirty-eighth general selection to Atlanta Falcons For No. 43 and No. 114 (fourth round).

Dane Brugler of The Athletic said in a draft of the guide:

Robinson is quick and slippery in creating pockets of breaks from his breaks and evasive pursuit in pursuit of the hunt. He has excellent field awareness of the ball in his hands, but his ways are a bit tricky, and he has more career dips (11) than receiving the ball (10). Overall, the Robinson is smaller and faster than fast, but a fast-moving innovator with an outstanding vision and athleticism in the open field. He has the potential to be the future of the NFL slot and comeback man.

Robinson is a player we didn’t profile in preparation for the project.

Sports Info Solutions says:

Robinson is emerging as a solid choice for the number 3 slot at the next level right now with the potential to grow into a true mismatch on the inside as he continues to gain experience as a real future. Teams looking to get the most out of him will be using him heavily at the bottom, on screens, and in the running game as he improves his skills on the trail. The surprise of his release could make him a reliable third choice in the short-passing game. It’s less dynamic and refined as a receiver but otherwise in a similar mold to Kadarius Toney as expected. Robinson also has ample experience returning through his football career, and his skill set makes him a strong candidate to tackle spot kick-and-punt return duties.

Robinson had 195 passes for 2,248 yards in three seasons with the Wildcats, averaging 11.5 yards per catch with 10 touchdowns. He has also been involved in kickoff and gambling returns, with 11 career kickoff returns and six kickbacks in her career.

NFL.com Lance Zerlin said:

Robinson will be offered as a receiver but this reduces his potential. It is surprising and simple and has the ability to perform plays from a variety of alignments. It has capabilities in hardware and can act as a dump and play target, as an extension of a running game. Lack of height and playing power may be a concern until he tightens up his running track to prevent contested catches. He’s a lot lighter than Deebo Samuel, but his competitiveness, acceleration and sprinting talent could make teams look to use somewhat similar to Robinson in the future.

Where it fits with the giants

Not surprisingly, the Giants took a wide receiver on the second day of the draft. However, it is surprising that they took this.

The comparison with Toney may raise eyebrows, and once again fuel speculation that the Giants may be willing to listen to offers of first-round picks for 2021, chosen by the previous regime.

“We don’t shop Tony’s Cadarius,” Schoen said frankly after the selection.

Giants have questions in the broad receiver. Uncertainty about Tony. Sterling Shepherd is back from an Achilles tendon rupture and was in the final year of his contract. Kenny Goladay was unproductive a year ago. After Darius Slayton saw his production run way back in the past two seasons, and with reports circulating he could be in the trade block.

Schoen said the Giants will have a plan for any player the team crafts. Friday night he told the media that the Giants had a “very clear view” of Robinson.
