Porsche Taycan Turbo GT steals Tesla's record as its fastest car

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is an all-electric powerhouse. With more than 1,000 horsepower and 0-60 mph in 2.1 seconds, it's the fastest and most powerful street-legal Porsche ever.

Porsche has been on a roll over the past few months as it expands its all-electric vehicle lineup. After unveiling the all-electric Macan in January, and turning its first model into an electric car, Porsche followed up with an upgraded Taycan last month.

The new Taycan is the best of everything, with greater range, faster charging, and added performance. “We are continuing this success story with the extensively updated Taycan,” said Kevin Jeck, president of the line.

Porsche included a larger battery (105 kWh), new thermal management, and a heat pump to improve efficiency.

The new 2025 Taycan reaches “new heights in performance” with all models faster than their predecessors.

Porsche has added features such as a new push-to-pass function that boosts power by up to 70 kW (for ten seconds) at the push of a button. With up to 938 hp for 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, the new Taycan Turbo is the most powerful road-legal Porsche yet. That is, until Porsche unveiled the Taycan Turbo GT on Monday.

Porsche has unveiled the new model with the Weissach Package after claiming the title of fastest electric production car at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

With a lap time of 1:27:87, Kern set another record. “To prove your mettle on the track, it's not enough to have as much power as possible. The overall package of acceleration, braking, cornering grip, aerodynamics, stability and fine-tuning has to be right,” explained Jake.

He added that Porsche engineers have already done a great job with the updated Taycan, but “our new GT cars clearly raise the bar again in terms of driving dynamics and enjoyment.”

Confront Tesla

Porsche's new high-performance electric car has smashed the previous record of 1:30:30 set by the Tesla Model S Plaid in 2020.

Although other electric cars have traveled the route faster, they have all been modified. With 1,092 hp (with the Weissach package), the new Porsche beats the Tesla Model S Plaid with 1,020 hp.

Tesla says the Model S Plaid can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds (subtracting rollout). This would beat Porsche's claimed 2.1 seconds.

Porsche and Tesla have been competing back and forth for the title of fastest electric production car since the Taycan won it in 2019.

At first glance, the high-performance electric car looks like a Taycan sports car. The model features a front spoiler with air blades and an adaptive rear spoiler. It also has more “racing vibes” than the Turbo and Turbo S models.
