Kristen Welker welcomes second child via surrogate

Kristen Welker is officially a mom of two!

Their son was born on Thursday, May 30 via surrogate, weighing 7 pounds. He is approximately 20 inches tall.⁠ He joins big sister Margot Lane, who turns three this month.

“I think when you first embark on a surrogacy journey, it’s a big leap of faith,” Welker recalls, adding that she wondered, “Will I connect with Margot right away? Will she feel any different about me?” ”

These questions disappeared when Margot arrived. “We connected instantly,” Welker said. “She looked at me, and I looked at her and told her I loved her more than the whole world, and all the fears I was feeling went away instantly.” [So] I have really been able to enjoy this second surrogacy journey. “This was a very different experience.”

As for Margot, she was ready for John Zachary’s arrival.

“Margot was telling her classmates that Mama and Dada were getting her a little brother for her birthday,” Welker laughed. “She is very proud of the fact that her little brother will sleep in her old bed.”

Welker added that while she and Hughes had some names in mind for their then-baby, Margot came up with a name for him that they adopted into their home: “Lulu.”
