Klay Thompson, Warriors in ‘unremarkable’ contract move – NBC Sports Bay Area and California

It’s almost June, and there’s no clarity on Klay Thompson’s future with the Warriors.

But as contract extension talks continue, there has been “no noticeable movement from either side” towards a resolution. Athlete Anthony Slater Quoting sources in the league on Thursday.

Slater added that Golden State is still interested in retaining Thompson “for the right price” once other parts of the roster emerge, but Thompson is expected to enter NBA free agency next July for the first time since 2019.

“[The Warriors] “I haven’t exactly knocked on his door to work on a framework for an extension (which could be signed at any time). In contrast, the 34-year-old Thompson appears ready to test the waters of free agency,” Slater wrote. And exploring outside options for the first time in his career.

“… Thompson has spent the last month traveling and stressing after an early and bitter end to a grueling season. But June is action time in the NBA. It’s time for Thompson and his representatives to really figure out what his options are, what he wants, and what it will take for Golden State to tempt him back.” Another one, and then it will be up to the Warriors to offer him or not.”

While Thompson, a four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star, could certainly benefit from a huge offer from a team like the Detroit Pistons or Charlotte Hornets, the competitive veteran still wants to win.

Slater doesn’t expect Thompson to chase a briefcase this season, but his hunger for a No. 5 ring is still there entering Season 14. Slater noted that there are other teams with cap space that have a clearer path toward contending for an NBA title than the Warriors, including That includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic — all teams that made the playoffs last season.
