A journalist from the Qatari channel Al Jazeera revealed during a live broadcast that his entire family had died in the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. Reporter Moamen Al-Sharafi describes how he lost his parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins: “A few days ago, my mother sent me a voice message on WhatsApp to say that she missed me.”
Last Wednesday, Israeli forces attacked the town of Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip. The city’s densely populated refugee camp was the target of Israeli bombing, but a primary school serving as a shelter was also hit. At least 100 civilians were killed in the attack, according to Palestinian media.
Among the dead were family members of Al Jazeera reporter Momen al-Sharabi. “Then the Israeli forces bombed the building where my family was. This led to the death of my entire family,” explains the journalist.
“She told me she missed me”
“There were 21 people in the building. They are all dead,” Mr. Al-Sharafi continued. The journalist listed all his dead relatives, including his father Mahmoud, whom he had not seen for a month, and his mother Amina. “A few days ago, my mother sent me a voice message on WhatsApp. .She told me that she missed me and prayed for my safety and that of my colleagues.
According to Palestinian media, rescue teams and volunteers failed to find the bodies of the victims. “I am deprived of even giving my family members a dignified burial,” said Mr. Al-Sharafi laments. More than 17,000 people have been killed on the Palestinian side since a surprise attack by the terrorist organization Hamas against Israel on October 7. 1,200 people died in Israel.
