Following Paramore's first two Grammy wins, Tennessee Democratic State Representative Justin Jones proposed a resolution to honor the Hayley Williams-fronted group alongside first-time Grammy Award winner Allison Russell.
However, while the state House of Representatives unanimously approved Parramore's resolution, House Republican Caucus Chairman Jeremy Faison objected to Russell's resolution and sent it back to committee.
in Posting on X (formerly Twitter) Earlier this week, Jones blamed GOP members of the chamber for blocking Russell's decision and praised the artist, writing, “She has worked tirelessly to promote inclusive Nashville through her music and continues to make black history here in Tennessee.”
In repostHe thanked Russell Jones and Tennessee State Representative Gloria Johnson for introducing the resolution, calling it a “tremendous honor.”

Russell has frequently objected to anti-LGBT legislation passed by the state, including organizing demonstrations I loved the rise of last year's All-Star benefit In protest of state laws restricting drag shows.
Following the news, Paramore said in… Instagram story that the band “will not accept any recognition or honor from TN House until Alison Russell receives the same recognition.” Then on Friday, Williams shared an additional statement via tnExpressing her support for Russell.
The singer wrote: “For those who don't know, Allison Russell is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Her music spans genres with strong ties to the folk/Americana scenes. You may have seen her on the Grammy stage performing with the great Joni Mitchell. Oh, and she “Also black. She's an amazing black woman.”
She continued: “The blatant racism of our state’s leadership is embarrassing and callous. I, as well as Parramore, will continue to encourage young people to come out and vote with equality in mind.
