Fatal road accident: 4 members of the same family killed

Alcohol and drug screening tests conducted on the young driver returned negative results, a source close to the investigation has learned.

Firefighters said the accident happened on Departmental Road 307 in the town of Bailey, a few kilometers from Versailles.

According to the gendarmerie, the driver of the Peugeot 206, aged in his twenties, lost control of his vehicle, crossed the dividing rail and collided head-on with cars traveling in the opposite direction.

He first attacked Renault Espace, a family of people: parents aged 62 and 71, their daughter and her partner (aged 32 and 34). All four died.

A third vehicle also collided with a Peugeot 206, but its occupants (a 34-year-old woman and her two- and three-year-old children) were not injured. The mother was “in shock,” firefighters insisted.

The driver who caused the accident was taken to the Percy Military Hospital in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine) in “absolute emergency” in a life-threatening condition.

Emergency services responded between 12:30pm and 5:20am, using four ambulances, a nursing vehicle, two road ambulances and a fire van.

Gendarmerie, municipal police and the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (SMAR) were also mobilized to the scene of the accident.
