Bohannon announced Sunday that he will be moving to South Florida, where he would prefer to start next season and have two seasons left of eligibility. It marks a major transfer for coach Jeff Scott as he enters his third season as the head coach of the NFL.

“I chose USF because I believe in these employees, I believe in the culture, and I believe in the change coming,” he told ESPN in a text message. “I believe in the players, I believe in Tampa. This team is the machine you want to play for, and they will give you (you) everything they have on and off the field.”

Bohanon has also paid a visit to Missouri since announcing his move from Baylor. He told ESPN that he also considered BYU, Georgia Tech, Liberty and Oklahoma. One of the rising stars of the 2021 football season, Bohanon went 10-2 as a Baylor rookie, leading the Bears amid a star-studded season that included a Big 12 title and a Sugar Bowl win.

Bohanon’s entry into the NCAA gate was a surprise, a byproduct of a classy move by Baylor coach Dave Aranda. Bohanon was defeated at the start of the business this spring by a reserve midfielder Blake Chapin. Aranda told Bohannon he would be the replacement in 2022, and by alerting him, Aranda gave Bohannon the option to go into the gate and try to find a starting job in his fifth season in college.

Bohanon will have two seasons of eligibility left due to the additional year given to all players from the 2020 pandemic season. Bohanon made his decision shortly after returning from his weekend visit to the USF.

Bohannon led Baylor to victory over three ranked teams in the regular season in 2021 – No. 4 Oklahoma and a freshman star. Caleb Williams, No. 14 Iowa and No. 19 BYU. He also led Baylor to a 21-7 victory over the No. 8 Ole Miss in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

He missed the top 12 game against Oklahoma State and the end of the regular season against Texas Tech due to a hamstring injury.

Bohanon will be immediately tested if he wins the starting job, as USF hosts BYU and Howard and travels to Florida and Louisville on the non-conference portion of the schedule.
