An emergency slide fell off a Delta plane while it was in the air Friday morning, forcing a Los Angeles-bound flight to return to JFK Airport, sources told The Washington Post.
The bizarre incident triggered an emergency alarm around 8:30 a.m. on Flight 520, which departed from the Queens airport an hour earlier, sources said.
The crew — who reported shaking, according to the Federal Aviation Administration — had no choice but to return to JFK, on Runway 22L, according to sources.
Cops were still searching for the missing chute early Friday afternoon, and sources said he was believed to be in Jamaica Bay.
No injuries were reported.
The plane, a Boeing 767, ended up leaving JFK for Los Angeles International Airport just before 11 a.m., according to FlightAware.
A Port Authority spokeswoman said there was an “ongoing investigation into what happened.”
The airline did not immediately respond to a request for information.
