Chelsea 1-0 West Ham United, Premier League: Post-match reactions, ratings

Chelsea needed a response after Wednesday’s defeat, our third shocking defeat in a row, and…well…that response didn’t arrive. On the plus side, we avoided compromising on disastrous individual mistakes.

There was a little note in the first 45 The first 60 minutes against visiting West Ham bent on doing something other than sitting deep and defending, before Chelsea upped the tempo a bit and started generating chances. And it looked like we had done enough when Romelu Lukaku was awarded a late penalty. And then it looked like it would be one of those days again when Jorginho’s tamed effort was so easily salvaged.

But Christian Pulisic arrived on time in the 90th minute to put a cross from Marcos Alonso into the far post for Chelsea to win!

With peace of mind.

  • More temporary defensive formations, this time with Azpilicueta to the left of Silva and Chalobah to the right. Christensen was ready to start, but had an injury in the warm-up, so Azbee moved across the line and entered Shaloba.

  • Chelsea remained five points ahead of fourth place and seven points behind fifth place, with a game postponed for both Arsenal and Tottenham. Six matches left in the league.
