Billie Eilish laments the wastefulness of “your favorite artists” by releasing dozens of vinyl releases

Over the years, Billie Eilish has taken initiatives to advocate for sustainability. In 2019, it collaborated with Global Citizen to Providing free concert tickets For environmentally conscious fans. In 2022, the pop star launched a climate action event called Overheated. I opened up about this issue in New painting interview, in which she described artists as being “prodigal” by releasing dozens of different vinyl formats.

Her latest album is 2021 Happier than ever, came in eight different types of vinyl, but was made from 100% recycled black vinyl and sugarcane shrink wrap, as well as recycled scraps for the colored variants. “We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it's very important for some artists to make all kinds of different vinyl and packaging…which increases the sales, increases the numbers, brings them more money, gets them more…” Eilish explains.

I continued:

I can't even express to you how extravagant that is. It's right in front of our faces and people are getting away with it right and left, and I find it really frustrating as someone who's trying their best to be sustainable and doing their best and trying to get everyone on my team involved in terms of sustainability – and then there are some of the biggest artists in the world making 40 different vinyl packages that have something unique on them. Different just to make you keep buying more. It's so wasteful, and it's so infuriating to me that we're still at a point where you care so much about your numbers and you care so much about making money — and all your favorite artists are doing this crap.
