Money has been pouring into sports betting across the country in the long run tiger wood To win the master’s.
Entering the week, the betting action on the odds of winning the Masters in Caesars Sportsbook was evenly distributed between Woods and two top-tier competitors, Justin Thomas And the Scotty Scheffler.
Only 16 bets separated Thomas and Scheffler Woods as of Tuesday afternoon at Caesars. By Wednesday, the gap had widened significantly after Woods said the day before he was planning to play this week for the Augusta National.
“Woods is now ahead of everyone else with more than 1,000 tickets,” Max Meyer, a spokesperson for Caesars Sportsbook, told ESPN.
The Masters will celebrate Woods’ first professional championship since he was seriously injured in a car accident in February 2021. The five-time Masters winner is 40-1 to win the championship at Caesars Sportsbook.
At the PointsBet sports site, Woods attracted more than three times the bets – and more than twice the money he bet – than any other golfer. The responsibility to bet Woods’ seven-time win was greater than any other player as of Wednesday morning.
“Tiger’s victory in the Masters would be our worst result of any golf tournament since we started in the United States by far,” said Jay Croucher, Head of Trading at PointsBet.
On March 30, Las Vegas-based sports company Circa Sports posted yes/no odds of whether Woods will play in the Masters in basically pick ’em. The next day, the odds on Yes grew to -1000 and rose to 2,000 before the sportsbook took them off the board this week.
“When we put on the stent, we had absolutely no intention of winning it,” Circa’s director of athletic operations Jeffrey Benson told ESPN in a direct message on social media. “The goal when you book these things is not to get killed.”
Benson tweeted that Circa would lose a “nice, nice house” if Woods wins this week.
Woods is a small underdog (+110) to hit the SuperBook in Westgate Las Vegas. Jeff Sherman, vice president of risk management and golf odds specialist at SuperBook, said he took bets from sharp-edged bookmakers on both sides of the Woods making the cut.
“His comeback after all to win in 2019, I think that probably gives people hope that something like this can happen again,” Sherman said. “I’m sure that’s why you see what we’re seeing now.”
When asked what he thinks of Woods’ real odds of winning the Masters, Sherman said 200-1.
John Ram (10-1) and Thomas (12-1) are the favorites in most sports books. Dustin Johnson (16-1, Brooks Kopka (18-1), Cameron Smith (18-1) and Scheffler (18-1) wrapped up the golfers with 20-1 advantage over the Caesars Sportsbook.
