Belgium sends soldiers to France to defend Paris Olympics

The Belgian Army will participate in the security and defense of the Paris Olympic Games. The number of soldiers sent to France is yet to be confirmed.

According to our information, Belgian players will participate in the defense of the Olympic Games this summer in Paris. These mainly consist of soldiers with sniffer dogs for bomb detection and demining.

Belgian Defense Minister Ludwigine Tedonder confirms this to us: “The French government has asked Belgium to contribute to the security and defense of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Belgian defense has studied the possibility of participation and concluded that a contribution is possible within the framework of the 2024 program activities. Belgian military support should be in the field of research and neutralization of explosive devices – that is to say, demining. Belgian security has expertise in this area and is regularly called upon for international interventions.”

“It is normal to request reinforcements during world sporting events. However, the scale of the reinforcements is unprecedented.” has Pierre-Henry Druesne, deputy national coordinator for security for the Olympic Games, explained.

The number of soldiers sent to France and the duration of the mission have not yet been specified.

The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
