At least 50 people were injured on Monday, most with minor injuries, after LATAM Airlines told the New Zealand Herald that a “technical issue” caused “forceful movement” during a flight from Sydney to Auckland.
LATAM Airlines flight LA800, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, landed at Auckland Airport as scheduled Monday afternoon, according to FlightAware.
The flight usually stops in Auckland en route to Santiago, Chile.
A spokesperson for the South American airline told the Herald there was a “technical issue” with the flight affecting some crew members and passengers, without providing further details.
A spokesman for Hato Hon St. John Hospital told Reuters that the Hato Hon St. John ambulance treated about 50 people at the airport.
They added that one of the injured was in serious condition, while the rest sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The NZ Herald quoted one passenger as saying she had a “quick little fall” during the flight.
Boeing and LATAM did not immediately respond to Reuters' questions about the cause and nature of the accident.
