The new King’s chief aide, Sir Cliff Alderton, told staff that “the body of work previously undertaken in this family in support of the personal interests of the former Prince of Wales and past activities and domestic operations will no longer be carried out” there.
This means, “The house will be closed…at Clarence House,” he warned in a letter seen by The Guardian.
“It is to be expected, therefore, that the need for positions principally in Clarence House, whose work supports these areas, will not be superfluous,” wrote the King’s private secretary.

“I appreciate that this is troubling news,” he admitted, offering “support.”
Insiders told the British newspaper that loyal staff had assumed they were still part of Charles’ crew, saying the news came as a complete shock as they worked around the clock to facilitate Charles’ accession to the throne.
“Everyone is absolutely pissed off, including the private secretaries and the senior team,” one source told the Guardian.
“All the staff have been working late every night since Thursday, for us to meet this. People have been visibly shaken by it.”
An annual review last year showed Clarence House employed the equivalent of 101 full-time employees, according to the UK newspaper.
The newspaper said that the identification of employees to be abandoned has not yet been determined. In his letter, Alderton said that some staff who provide “direct, close and personal support and advice” to Charles and Queen Camilla will remain.
A spokesman for Clarence House confirmed to the British newspaper that “the operations of the Prince of Wales and the former Duchess of Cornwall have ceased.”
“Our employees have provided a long and loyal service, and while layoffs are inevitable, we are working urgently to identify alternative roles for as many employees as possible,” the delegate insisted..
The royal family has yet to announce where Charles will live as king. Only parts of Buckingham Palace are habitable as it is undergoing major maintenance work that is expected to last for years, the Guardian notes.
However, the palace remains the main seat of the monarchy and the official residence of the king.
Charles also owns residence at Birkhall in Balmoral, Highgrove in Gloucestershire, and Llwynywermod, a country cottage in Wales.
He may also keep the use of Windsor Castle and Sandringham House in Norfolk, both favored by his late mother.
