U.S.A study published in the journal Nature explains that more or less sleep is associated with decreased cognitive function after the age of 40.
According to the study, the best sleep time is 7 hours to protect yourself and stay healthy for the rest of your life. In fact, researchers reveal that these 7 hours of sleep benefit three specific areas of the brain. These are the pre-central chirus (motor role), the RP-frontal cortex (which plays a key role in decision making and emotions) and the hippocampus (which plays a key role in short-term memory).
The study, conducted by scientists at the University of Cambridge and Futan in China, included a large sample of nearly 500,000 people, all ranging in age from 38 to 73 years.
Excessive or insomnia appears to be similar to a significant cognitive decline. The study points out that by getting 7 hours of sleep a night, skills related to memory, speed, visual acuity or problem-solving skills are improved.
