This means that players are constantly making new discoveries in Baldur's Gate 3 but they are usually in the form of unseen interactions with beloved game companions. At most, they'll find geeky Easter eggs thrown in by hard-working developers.

Of course, there are things in the game that these developers didn't plan for people to miss, especially the core mechanics. Unfortunately for a Reddit user RoxicaroAnd that's exactly what they did.

The player manages to complete the entirety of Baldur's Gate 3 without ever stumbling across the game-changing Ilithid powers provided by inserting tadpoles into your brain.

“I avoided using Tadpole and rejected anything related to it because I thought it would turn me into an illithid eventually,” they explained. The decision makes sense because a large portion of the game revolves around you trying to cure this particular disease.

However, the roleplaying decision had consequences, and Roxicaro spent the entire playthrough with a confusing gap in the radial roster. “I never knew there was a complete list for choosing illithid powers,” they said.

It's a huge thing to miss. Some Ilithid powers provide really useful buffs that give Baldur's Gate 3 players some significant advantages in and out of combat.

There are plenty of illithid powers you can access if you don't mind sticking tadpoles into your brain.

On the plus side, Roxicaro now have a great excuse to play a second time as they load themselves up on the slimy tadpole. Especially since there isn't much impact on the story to do so, other than some narrative dissonance.
