18 injured, “I thought it was a bomb” (videos)

The explosion occurred in the apartment building. It was 1pm when the facts took place on No. 35 General Bardinas de Salamanca Street (Madrid), El Pice reports. The explosion was impressive and powerful. At least 18 people were injured: one was in critical condition and four were taken to hospital. Also, 2 workers trapped in the rubble were missing.

The four-story building was severely damaged. “There is a lot of damage on the street,” emergency services said, indicating that several vehicles had been affected.

The origin of the eruption is not yet known. It may be a gas leak. Some neighbors are said to have emitted a strong stench before the explosion. “I thought it was a bomb,” a resident told the Spanish newspaper. But this is also due to the work going on in the building.
