Established in 2000, the New Zealand Millennium Cup is the world’s most southerly sailing regatta. Key sponsors include Orams Marine, North Sails and Southern Spars.

Southern Wind 24.72-metre sailing yacht Ammonite became an overall winner of the New Zealand Millennium Cup 2018. Ammonite was contending the first time, and took line of honours in 4 of the 6 races. Ammonite's crew included Olympic sailors Matt Belcher and Will Ryan Winner of the 2016 and 2017, the 28.1-metre Tawera built by Alloy Yachts in 1995, took first place in Race 4 and Race 5, thought she made a slow start.

“There’s no better place in the world to sail,” said Ammonite owner, Marcus Blackmore at the prize giving ceremony. “Thanks go to all the sponsors and, in particular, Doyle Sails New Zealand’s Mike Sanderson who helped us understand local conditions,” he continued, going onto say that Ammonite would enjoy defending the title next year if possible.
