War in Ukraine: Zelensky arrives at the White House, welcomed by Biden

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has not left his country since Russia invaded on February 24, arrived at the White House on Wednesday and was greeted by Joe Biden before addressing the US Congress during an already historic visit.

VVolodymyr Zelensky was greeted on the steps of the White House by his US counterpart Joe Biden on Wednesday, for the first visit by a Ukrainian head of state outside its borders since the start of the war.


Wearing a khaki sweater, Mr Zelensky, who posed for photographers in the winter sun alongside Jill and Joe Biden, hugged her. The two leaders are scheduled to meet each other before a joint press conference.

Ukrainians “are an inspiration to the world,” Biden tells Zelensky. The United States, according to the US president, stands for a “just peace” for Ukraine. “I will continue to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself,” Joe Biden assures Zelensky.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expresses his gratitude “from the bottom of his heart” for the response.
