Violet Affleck, the 18-year-old daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, is speaking candidly about the medical condition that has affected her life.

The teen spoke during the public comment portion of a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting, and was seen making an emotional plea. In a video shared on X.

Affleck, who was seen wearing a mask, began by introducing herself as “Violet Affleck, Los Angeles resident, 18-year-old first-time voter.”

“I had a medical condition after contracting the virus in 2019. I’m fine now, but I’ve seen for myself that medicine doesn’t always have answers to the consequences of even simple viruses,” she said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made this fact even more apparent,” she continued.

“One in 10 infections results in long COVID, a devastating neurological and cardiovascular disease that can rob people of their ability to work, see, move, and even think,” Affleck said. “To address the long COVID crisis, I am calling for masks, air purification, and far-UV lights in government facilities, including prisons and detention centers, and for mask-wearing to be mandated in county medical facilities.”

She also called for more free testing and treatment opportunities, adding that “most importantly, the province must oppose bans on masks for any reason.”

“They don’t make us safer,” she concluded. “They make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together. Thank you.”

Affleck is the eldest of three children of Garner and Ben Affleck, who married in 2005 and split in 2018. Their other children are Seraphina (known as Finn), 15, and Samuel, 12.
