Some compare a geopark in the province of Gansu with a layered cake, others with a marble cake, but any culinary associations fade before the wild imagination of nature. Having taken tectonic activity, precipitation and wind as assistants, in 25 million years she created a fancy painting on the rocks. Mark Rothko himself would envy the color and composition of the painting.

The dunes in the southwestern part of the island have one mysterious property. If you scoop sand with your palm, it will split into colored layers by itself. The rainbow mountains are reminiscent of Peruvian ponchos. Seeing them in all its glory allows the route around the summit of Ausangate at a height of 6372 m. It is worthwhile to delay the trip for at least 10 days to get used to the thin air, to have time to visit Cuzco and take a train to Machu Picchu.
