The fight against tobacco needs a new impetus. In a European ranking comparing restrictive laws, Belgium stagnates in tenth place, ahead of Ireland or Hungary. The central government announces new regulations for 2025, which include a ban on smoking in amusement parks.

BOr one in five Belgians, smoking is still a daily habit. According to the latest report by the Cancer Foundation, this number has started to rise again since 2018 (17% of smokers). With immediate consequences in terms of public health: every day, 40 people die from tobacco, or 14,000 per year. 300,000 people suffer from a disease directly related to smoking. The figures remain high despite the strengthening of anti-smoking policies in recent years.
