Suspected serial killer admits to killing 42 women, dumping bodies in quarry

A suspected serial killer has been arrested in Kenya after confessing to killing 42 women, police say. CBS News, CNNAnd NBC Newswhich cites authorities.

The Kenyan National Police described the suspect, identified as Collins Gumisi, 33, as a “psychopathic serial killer with no respect for human life,” according to CBS News.

On Monday, June 15, police alleged that Gumisi confessed to the crimes after several bodies were found in a quarry in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, NBC News reported.

He was arrested at 3am outside a club where he had gone to watch the European Football Championship final, according to press release Shared on social media.

It is not yet clear whether he has appointed a lawyer to comment on his behalf.

Police said the man lived about 330 feet from the quarry.

According to NBC News, nine bodies have been recovered from the quarry. Mohammed Amin, head of the Criminal Investigation Department, said in a televised statement seen by the network that the killings began with Al-Jumaisy’s wife in 2022, and the most recent murder occurred on July 11, 2024.

According to CNN, Amin claimed that Al-Jumaisy confessed to strangling his wife to death before “cutting up her body and disposing of it at the scene.” Amin added that the suspect’s other victims “were killed in the same manner.”

Authorities said Monday that “post-mortem examinations are being conducted today” on the nine bodies recovered, CNN reported.

At a press conference on Sunday, July 14, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanga said the nine bodies were “badly dismembered, in various states of decomposition, and left in bags,” according to CNN.

The Criminal Investigation Department’s account on social media published, today, Monday, subscriber A set of photos shows the items allegedly found at Al-Jumaisi’s home, including 24 SIM card holders, eight smartphones, one knife, 12 nylon bags, six male ID cards and two ID cards for two of his alleged victims.

The statement said that Al-Jumaisi was arrested after a “forensic analysis” of a mobile phone belonging to one of his alleged victims, and that “mobile money transactions conducted on the day she disappeared pointed to the suspect.”

According to CBS, Amin said police are “looking for a second suspect,” who allegedly had a cell phone from one of the victims. The second suspect has not been named.
