Super Bowl 2024: Chiefs beat 49ers in OT thriller on TD pass by Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs became Super Bowl champions for the third time in the Patrick Mahomes era.

Mahomes found Mecole Hardman for a touchdown in overtime Sunday to seal a 25-22 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in a thriller. The Super Bowl win is the Chiefs' second straight and third in five seasons. It also marks their second win over the 49ers in the Super Bowl after beating San Francisco following the 2019 season.

Mahomes was excellent again, completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He led the Chiefs on a game-tying drive at the end of regulation, then a game-winning drive in overtime. He converted two first downs with his feet in the extra session, including a run on fourth-and-1 to keep the Chiefs alive.

The effort led to Mahomes receiving his third Super Bowl MVP trophy.
