Sources – Alabama Agrees to Record Deal with GM Courtney Morgan

Alabama football general manager Courtney Morgan has agreed to a new, unprecedented contract with the Crimson Tide following a summer offer from the University of Southern California, sources confirmed to ESPN Monday night.

Morgan will earn an average of $825,000 per year under the three-year contract, a deal that cements his status as the highest-paid figure in college football administration. The new deal was approved by the University of Alabama System’s Board of Trustees on Monday, but sources told ESPN the updated contract had been in the works for some time.

Morgan’s salary numbers were first reported by 247Sports.

Morgan, the general manager behind Washington’s 2024 national No. 2 pick, is among the rising stars in college football’s rapidly growing front office and personnel space.

Morgan spent the past two seasons with Kalen DeBoer at Washington, then followed the 49ers to Alabama earlier this year when the Crimson Tide hired DeBoer to replace Nick Sabin. The former Michigan, San Jose State and Fresno State recruit was instrumental in assembling a 2025 recruiting class that ranks No. 2 nationally in ESPN’s latest team rankings for the cycle.

Morgan’s success has drawn interest from across the country. Sources told ESPN that after USC tried to recruit Morgan for a similar position at Southern California this summer, DeBoer moved quickly to secure Morgan’s future in Tuscaloosa, sealing a market-shattering extension.

Morgan earned a $500,000 annual base salary in his initial contract with Alabama, which was finalized in February. His updated contract represents the latest major investment in front-office space in football.

ESPN’s Jake Trotter reported earlier this summer that Texas Tech general manager James Blanchard was given a new two-year contract worth $800,000.
