Inside Jennifer Lopez's Bel Air estate
Jenny from the Block definitely has a chic taste when it comes to real estate. Previously she invested in the most gorgeous "blocks" on both coasts, including a glamorously dressed 17,000-square-foot mansion in L.A.’s Hidden Hills enclave purchased in 2010 for $8.2 million. Her East Coast holdings included a 6,500-square-foot duplex penthouse in New York City’s Flatiron District bought in 2014 for a bit more than $20.1 million and a 2.8-acre estate in the low-key but high-toned Water Mill area of the Hamptons, acquired in 2013 for almost $10 million.
In 2016 the singer bought an incredible French-country-inspired Bel Air mansion.
Bel Air is a neighborhood in the Westside area of Los Angeles, California, in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. It was founded in 1923. Bel Air is described as a lightly populated residential district with an older, well-educated population with a high income level.
Although Bel Air is located in a rather secluded and quiet area, picturesque landscapes attracted several film crews.
Exterior scenes from Get Shorty and several episodes of the television show The Rockford Files have been filmed in the area.
Actress Sela Ward, who starred in the series "CSI: N.Y." and "House M.D.", owned this house previously. Ward and her husband Howard Sherman bought the property more than a decade ago for $3.8 million.
A seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom, 13,932-square-foot home was originally designed by architect Samuel Marx and built in 1940.
In 2003 extensive renovation was done to create a calming, natural ambience to match its natural surroundings. The house came to market in September 2015 for $39.995 million and was finally sold to Jennifer Lopez for a cool $28 million.
Outdoor features, situated on 2.3 acres of land on Stone Canyon Road, include everything what you need to enjoy sunny days in California in a pleasant society.
The home is equipped for large-scale entertaining with its own pub, two guest cottages (one of them has a screened porch), amphitheater with seating for 100 people, bamboo forest, vineyard, pagoda with fire pit, mini-golf, a man-made swimming pond with a beach entry and, of course, swimming pool with spa. There's also enough parking for 17 cars.
The interior layout of the house offers all conditions for a relaxed and comfortable time off. A special feature for cozy family evenings is a plush 30-seat screening room.
Lopez had moved together with her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez and their four children.
Lopez has 9-year-old twins, Emme Maribel and Maximilian David, with ex Marc Anthony. Rodriguez has two children of his own — Natasha, 12, and Ella, 9 — from his previous relationship with Cynthia Scurtis.
“We walked into this house, and I said, ‘This is where I want my kids to grow up,’” recalls Lopez.
Which is not surprising, since the desire to possess this luxurious house catches you at its glamorous and elegant gate, shaped by nature itself. Along with the normal gate, there is a tree that naturally creates an archway for visitors to pass through.
The house combines European elegance and American comforts. Homey living room with high vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows leads out to an outdoor terrace. The furnishings include low-slung sofas, big pillows, and bowls filled with cut roses. In the corner, there's a cypress wood library for work.
The walls throughout the house are decorated with artworks by collagist Peter Tunney and oil painting.
The lush garden, full of rose bushes, Mexican lime and palm trees, has a rustic charm and offers the absolute perfect set up for late night dinner parties with her family and friends. There will be no shortage of barbecues or cocktails at this house.
A light-filled and fully-equipped kitchen with atrium windows has a long center island with enough space to gather the whole family at the table and offers an excellent opportunity for disclosing culinary talents. On rare cloudy days or family weekends, JLo's kids definitely enjoy here homemade pancakes.
The superstar, who released a song "I ain't your mama" in 2016, which lyrics include lines such as "I ain't gon' be cooking all day, I ain't your mama", likes to pamper her family and close friends with some traditional dishes. A few years ago Lopez was spotted in an Instagram video, making a traditional Puerto Rican meal for her longtime friend Leah Remini.
"I like to cook Puerto Rican food. That's what I grew up on: rice, beans, meat, some Italian-American food. I know my way around the kitchen," said JLo.
But, as we can judge from her Instagram, JLo is also surrounded by care and sometimes enjoys a breakfast-in-bed in one of the seven spacious bedrooms. Although Jennifer wasn't too often flattered by the title of a pop music queen in the press, thanks to the massive canopy she has the pleasure to experience how does it feel to sleep like in a royal bed. The bedroom is designed in calm light colors, features an impressive fireplace and leads out to its own outdoor space, where the owners can breath fresh air after sleeping and maybe do some work-out exercises.
Of course, the layout of the estate takes into account not only the hobbies and family interests of the star but also its professional needs.
The already mentioned amphitheater, hidden in the wilds of the park-like garden, is a perfect setting to host some incredible private musical performances, or to rehearse your next world tour in a pastoral lyric atmosphere.
JLo's twins are hardly bored in their new home. In the backyard there's plenty of space for outdoor entertaining: from a mini golf course to an infinity-edge swimming pool and vegetable garden. Let alone a huge game room! The kids are all right while their mom recovers in a dedicated massage room!
“You have to imagine your life, and what you want to be in it, and I imagined we would be very happy here no matter what,” said Lopez on her home buying.
Well, we can say the star has the great abilities in imagination. Within this hypnotizing compound under Californian sun, there's definitely no place for shadows of Bronx's blocks.
