Paris Saint-Germain players complained about Kylian Mbappe’s statements to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Six Paris Saint-Germain players have complained to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi following comments made by Kylian Mbappe in an interview.

Mbappe gave an interview to the French newspaper France Football, Via L’Equipe Onlinein which he described PSG as a “divisive club” that tends to “attract gossip”.

The France captain was responding to a question about whether people were now “underestimating” his performance, and responded by saying that playing for PSG “doesn’t help”.

Mbappe also suggested that PSG may have reached a “glass ceiling” regarding their lack of Champions League success, suggesting that it was a question that needed to be answered by those “who build the team”. He added that the players—including himself—”did everything they could” and “did what we could”. Paris Saint-Germain was knocked out in the last 16 by Bayern Munich, losing 3-0 on aggregate.

Mbappe’s comments seem to have angered Paris Saint-Germain fans, who expressed their displeasure on social media. Among the players who complained to Al-Khelaifi, two were said to be new to the club.

The interview was published on Saturday but was conducted last month, thus prior to recent developments surrounding his future at PSG.

Bidding, Bluffing and Enablement Terms: Mbappe and PSG are preparing for another summer of high-stakes poker

Mbappe informed the Ligue 1 champions last month in a letter that he would not launch the option to extend his contract, which will take him until June 2025 in Paris.

Al-Khelaifi said earlier this week that Mbappe will not be allowed to leave for free next summer – when his contract expires – and that the 24-year-old has two weeks to decide whether to stay at the club. Paris Saint-Germain sent a three-page letter to Mbappe, dated July 3, accusing him of causing “serious harm to the club” and informing him that he had a deadline of July 31 to decide his future.

And Mbappe had said earlier last month that he would stay at Paris Saint-Germain for the next season, before making a decision about his future in the summer of 2024.

He signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 after months of speculation that he wanted to join Real Madrid. The contract was presented as a three-year deal by PSG, with Mbappe sporting a club shirt with the ‘2025’ slogan on the back, but it was in fact a two-year deal with the striker keeping his option for an additional season.

Paris Saint-Germain is preparing for the 2023-24 campaign under new coach Luis Enrique after parting ways with Christophe Galtier after one year in charge.

The French side have so far signed Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio and Manuel Ugarte, with all arrivals announced this week. They are also close to confirming the signings of Lucas Hernandez and Kang In Lee.
