Packers sign quarterback Jordan Love to contract extension

The Green Bay Packers have signed quarterback Jordan Love to a new contract. General manager Brian Gutekunst announced the deal on Saturday.

Love appeared in 27 regular season games with 18 starts and two postseason games (both starts) for the Packers after originally being selected by Green Bay in the first round (26th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah. In 2023, he became the third quarterback in NFL history to record 4,000+ passing yards (4,159) and 32+ touchdown passes (32) in his first season with multiple starts, joining Kurt Warner (1999) and Patrick Mahomes (2018). Love was the first quarterback to help lead the Packers to the postseason in his first full year as a starter (2023) since at least 1950, when the league began recording starts per player. Last season, he was one of four linebackers (Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, Baker Mayfield) who ranked 10th in the league in passing touchdowns (No. 2), passing yards (No. 7) and passer-to-interception ratio (No. 7, 2.91). The linebacker’s 32 passing touchdowns were the fourth-most in a season with multiple starts, trailing only Mahomes (50 in 2018), Warner (41 in 1999) and Donte Culpepper (33 in 2000). Love threw multiple passes without any interceptions in a league-high nine games in 2023, tying him for first in NFL history (Purdy) for the most by a linebacker in his first 18 career games.

Over the final eight games of the 2023 regular season, Love completed 196 of 279 passes (70.3%) for 2,150 yards and 18 scores with one interception for a 112.7 rating, joining Rodgers (Nov. 14, 2021-Jan. 9, 2022) as the only Green Bay quarterbacks to record 2,150+ passing yards, 18 passing scores, 1/0+ interceptions and a 70+ completion percentage over eight games in a single season. Love started both games of the playoffs last season, completing 37 of 55 passes (67.3%) for 466 yards and five scores with two interceptions for a 108.6 rating, the fourth-best rating in team history in a single season (minimum 30 interceptions). He posted a 157.2 rating in his NFL playoff debut, completing 16 of 21 passes (76.2%) for 272 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His passer rating tied for the fourth-best mark (minimum 15 attempts) in NFL postseason history and tied with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud for the highest mark by a quarterback in an NFL playoff debut. The 157.2 rating was the second-best rating by an NFL quarterback in an away playoff game behind Terry Bradshaw’s perfect 158.3 rating in Baltimore on December 19, 1976.
