Game 5 – Islanders in Hurricanes

Carolina leads 3-1

7 p.m. on ESPN, SN

New York must recover from a tough 5-2 loss Sunday at home if it is to extend that streak last Tuesday night. The Islanders took stupid penalties, the Hurricanes took advantage, and now they can move on to the second round with a win.

Carolina came into this series as favorites, but after New York pulled off a convincing Game 3 victory, it appeared to be a series in which many of Carolina’s players were injured.

Carolina goalkeeper Anti Ranta split his pants, made a save, and that pants may be good luck now. The Islanders will need a disciplined performance Tuesday night to send the series back to Long Island.

Game 5 – Wild at Stars

Series tied 2-2

8 p.m. on TBS, SN360

Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger had his best game of the series on Sunday making several key saves including this time in the last minute of the game to save the win.

Dallas could really use some help from forward Jason Robertson. He’s scored one goal and added three assists so far, but he’s been minus one in the series. Rob Hintze leads the All-Stars with four goals and four assists while Miro Heiskanen has added five.

The Wild line of Marcus Foligno, Frederick Gaudreau and Gustav Nyquist dominated with an expected goal rate of 83 percent when they were on the ice together according to MoneyPuck.com. If this trio can maintain their dominance in Game 5, the Wild might steal one down the road.

Game 5 – Kings in Oilers

Series tied 2-2

9:30 p.m. on ESPN, SN, CBC

The Oilers trailed 3-0 in Game 4 in Los Angeles and were looking to trail their first-round series 3-1. Then the text flipped. The Oilers erased that three-goal deficit and eventually won 5-4 in overtime on a Zack Hyman goal. Three of the four games so far this series have gone into overtime.

It’s time to talk about Leon Drystle. He’s been on the ice for every goal Edmonton has scored this season, and without him, who knows where the Oilers would be now. He scored five goals and assisted on four others. Conor McDavid usually grabs all the headlines for obvious reasons, but Dricetel’s playoff play throughout his career has been impressive. He averaged 1.66 points per game in the playoffs.

Los Angeles would rally itself not to shut out the Oilers in Game 4 and take them out to a 3-1 lead, but showed that this series can upset McDavid and end up scoring when the Oilers’ top line isn’t on the ice.
