Jason Tatum says he played with a broken wrist versus the Warriors in the NBA Finals

Tatum, the Celtics’ top scorer during the 2021-22 regular season, occasionally struggled against the Warriors in the six-game series. The three-time NBA All-Star averaged 21.5 points during the Finals, second only to Jaylen Brown’s 23.5.

More than two months after the Warriors won the NBA Championship at TD Garden, Tatum revealed that he played through an injury throughout the playoffs.

“It showed that I had a non-abandoned fracture in my country [left] wrist,” Tatum told Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rocks during a live interview on Sunday.

“An undisturbed chip, like I broke a bone but it didn’t leave the surface, did it? But it did show that the bone had grown on top of it, so it recovered, but… I was still in pain because I kept getting hit or falling on it. So I guess I played with a fracture to Somewhat for about two months.”

Tatum, who fired 45.3 percent from the field during the 2021-22 regular season, saw that number drop to 36.7 percent over the six games against the Warriors. In the last game of the series, Tatum only managed 13 points in a 6-of-18 shot from the field.

Tatum admitted that he exacerbated the injury during playoffs, but received treatment in order to continue playing.

“And then in the playoffs, there was a game against Milwaukee in Game 3,” Tatum told the Rocks. “I overwhelmed him. Giannis [Antetokounmpo] She chased after me, obstructed me, and fell into the crowd. And this was the most painful thing since the day I hurt him. And I ended up getting a cortisone shot on my wrist that night and you can see it. I lost my hand color because it kills fat cells and there isn’t much fat in my hand, so I lost color there.

“But after every match, I had to wear a brace, to shoot, and take it off before the cameras saw me. Then before the match, I took my naps and put it back on, just to make sure it was stable.”

It’s unclear if Tatum has had any kind of procedure on his wrist that’s inappropriate.

At that point in the season, most players are dealing with some sort of injury. for what it’s worth, Steve Curry exacerbated a foot injury During the third match of the finals. He played in Game 4 and composed one of the most iconic performances of his career, scoring a game-high 43 points to prevent the Warriors from falling into a three-to-one hole. With this streak, Golden State went on to win the next two games to take its fourth NBA title in eight seasons.

Tatum, 24, is one of the best young players in the NBA and there’s no doubt he will be in good health when the 2022-23 season begins in mid-October.

With both the Warriors and the Celtics bringing back rosters that were mostly the same from last year, there’s a good chance they’ll meet again in the Finals next July, giving Tatum a chance to redeem himself.
