DTwo activists surprised German President Olaf Scholz by posing shirtless next to him on Sunday by unceremoniously disrobing and calling for a “gas embargo” against Russia.

The two activists, who took advantage of a weekend government open house to reach out to the German president, were quickly escorted away by security officials after a move to condemn Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Germany, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas, has so far been unable to impose a total embargo on gas from Russia, despite desperately seeking an alternative.

When asked by the public earlier on Sunday, Mr. Scholes recalled Berlin’s various efforts to find alternative energy sources, including liquefied natural gas, with the first terminals Berlin plans to build starting in 2023. “Then our defense supply problem will be solved by early 2024,” he continued.
