LWhile he was frozen, the bodies of two children were found on Thursday in a freezer in “a woman’s house” still in police custody, in the city of Bedouin, in the department of Vaucluse (southern France), said the prosecutor of the Republic of Carpentras, Hélène Morges, to AFP.
“The file begins and the facts are of a criminal nature,” the magistrate said, explaining that the discovery took place in the morning after “a call from a third party”. The woman, a 41-year-old mother who lives in this town at the foot of Mont Ventoux, was arrested at the scene and has been in police custody since 11am.
At this stage of the investigation, it is not possible to determine the age or gender of the children found frozen, as well as any possible links between them or the woman in police custody.
“It is difficult to provide details at this stage,” Ms Morges stressed, adding that “samples have been taken” to learn more about the two children. “The autopsy will tell us more”, the lawyer added, noting that it could only happen “within a certain time”, adding that “all precautions have been taken to preserve all scientific evidence”.
The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie regiment of Carpentras. The relationship between the person who called the gendarmes and the woman in police custody was not mentioned by the prosecution.
